Blog Day etc

Last night Doreen, Janine and I went to BVSC for a Blog Day event. We met Philip (with one L) Oakley a truly inspiring, encouraging geek who introduced us to Wikis, Twitter, Rejaw, Plurk, Pownce, Tumblr, Goodreads, Jaiku. Ping.fm and delicious. The food was lovely and we also met other nice people. We came away with a new necklace (memory stitk USP) and a book "How to use New Media" a lovely book with all these things I've not caught up with yet. After 2 hours of exhausting Philip to show us everything including his sons' website we left BVSC totally exhausted. We also looked for a Geek meeting for 30th December for my friends' husbands' birthday present. I went home read my letters then went to bed with the book. I am now armed with new knowledge. I also listened to Jonathan Jay's business cds on getting leads and setting up databases. This morning I waited in for the postman. I was a bit confused because he lives across the road and his van was 'at home' but he hadn't delivered my 'recorded delivery' letter. Eventually after reading a bit more from my new book and listening to Jonathan Jay the postman arrived. He was standing in for mine who is on holiday. I then went to this 'we're here to help you into work place' and tried to put my new knowledge into place. Web(non)sense Enterprise, which they've installed for a very large sum, wouldn't let me into most of the sites because "Your organization (they can't spell) Internet use policy restricts access to their web page at this time. Reason: The Web(non)sense category "Social Networking and Personal Sites" is filtered. Other filtered categories: "Miscellaneous," "Web Chat" At least I didn't get any "Malicious" sites today. So I'm trying to network with other businesses and because other clients have misused the sites I can't get into the sites that I need. One consolation: a member of staff said she can't go on Facebook either! Does she have business clients on Facebook too, I wonder. So instead I went on eCademy and Wikipedia. I didn't know what a wiki was until last night but I have used the website before. So I now have info on my names, Shirley, Patricia, Lake, places and famous people with the same names. Research for my redbubble sites. So now I'll go and sign up for all the sites I couldn't use in 'the other place'
